Throughout my life, I've been very lucky to experience the kindness of people, whether manifested as a simple gesture in my daily life or an eye-opening mentorship leading to a life-changing career path. Knowing first-hand how this can have a lasting positive impact on our lives, I try to do my part too by getting involved in activities on issues that matter to me. And not only because 'giving back' is important, but mainly because it is truly enjoyable and fulfilling. I'd like to share a few of these involvements here.
During my early days on Wall Street, I volunteered for Minds Matter, an NGO supporting young people from low-income backgrounds.
As a life coach and mentor, I helped guide my student Francis, a high school senior in Harlem, into his top-choice university, where he became the first person in his family to pursue higher education. This undertaking remains one of my proudest moments and a source of motivation in all aspects of my life.
As a high school student in 1997, I was selected to participate in the US Government-funded Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program for exceptional young talents from the former Soviet Union.
This transformative year living with a local family and attending school in Indiana sparked my ambition to write my own story and continue exploring new places, while working on the host family’s farm led to a lifelong interest in agribusiness.
